Geotechnical engineering is one of the most important yet least understood disciplines within civil engineering. Also known as "geotechnics" and includes close working relationships with engineering geologists, geotechnical engineering is a branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials. Geotechnical Consultants Australia Pty Ltd (GCA) provides geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, civil engineering and construction process consultancy, in conjunction with environmental consultancy and laboratory testing services for all minor and major projects for all minor and major projects. GCA provides effective solutions to all projects, with expertise in ground structures, land subdivisions, deep excavation, slope assessment, foundation inspection and assessment, pavement design and construction methodology.
Our team includes registered Members of the Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust), National Engineering Register (NER), Registered Professional Engineers (RPEng), Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) and International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), along with Chartered Engineers. Our team also have vast experience and qualifications in construction and project management, working on small to large scale projects. Our team also comprises registered Design Practitioners and Professional Engineers to work on projects under new compliance from NSW Fair Trading.

Site Lot Classifications - Better Engineering Knowledge

  • GCA specialises in delivering affordable and quick turn over site investigations and site lot classifications generally in accordance with Australian Standards (AS) 2870-2011. All of our site lot classifications are carried out to Australian Standards by highly experienced geotechnical engineers and/or engineering geologists, and include (where deemed necessary), laboratory testing on collected soil sample/s by our affiliate NATA accredited laboratory.

Our Common investigation methods...

  • Some of our common geotechnical and environmental investigation and sampling methods include:
  • Soil boring: Drilling into the ground to collect soil samples for laboratory testing.
  • Test pit excavation: Digging pits to visually inspect soil layers and collect samples.
  • Cone Penetration Test (CPT): Pushing a cone-shaped probe into the ground to measure soil resistance.
  • Standard Penetration Test (SPT): Driving a heavy weight into the ground to measure soil resistance.
  • Plate Load Test: Loading a plate on the ground surface to measure soil bearing capacity.
  • Inclinometer installation: Monitoring ground movement and deformation.
  • Stanpipe piezometers: Installation of wells to monitor, sample and assess the nature of groundwater.
